RVBA May Meeting & Backpack Drive For Casa

 Join the Rockwall Veterans Business Alliance for their May Meeting & Backpack Drive for Lone Star CASA on May 12th at The Roundabout.

Since their quarterly #StillServing project was rained out last weekend, the RVBA is rolling that into their monthly meeting. All RVBA members and guests are encouraged to bring at least one backpack to help support the mission of Lone Star Casa.
What is Lone Star CASA?

Founded in 1993, Lone Star CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children — serves Rockwall and Kaufman Counties in Texas. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports volunteers who gather important information about abused and neglected children and offer recommendations to judges that help them decide what is the best interests of each child.

CASA volunteers get to know the child and speak to everyone involved in the child’s life, including their family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, social workers, and others.

The information they gather and their recommendations help the court make informed decisions. CASA volunteers commit to a child until the case is closed and the child is in a safe, permanent home.
The need for backpacks to help CASA volunteers fulfill their mission is crucial. Often times, when children are removed from a bad situation in their home, they are quickly given whatever is on hand to gather a few belongings to take with them. More often than not this is a trash bag that they put a change of clothes, toothbrush and a couple of other personal items. With YOUR donations of backpacks, CASA volunteers are able to give these children the bags to put their belongings as they transition into foster care. This gives the children a sense of ownership and something that is theirs. It is a crucial step in the process to help them during a difficult transition.

The Rockwall Veterans Business Alliance is calling on its members from every military branch to represent at our monthly meeting on May 12th from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm by bringing as many new or very gently used backpacks that you can to our table at the Rockwall Farmers Market where we will be set up across from the west side of the old courthouse. The branch that brings in the most backpacks will gain bragging rights until our next drive or fundraiser.
